Description

Magnolia biondii (Magnoliaceae, magnoliids) is a deciduous tree species widely grown and cultivated in the north-temperate regions of China. Its flowers are showy and fragrant, and essential oils can be extracted from them. Chemical extracts of the flower buds are used for local stimulation and anesthesia, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic, blood pressure-decreasing, and anti-allergic effects. Modern phytochemical studies have characterized the chemical constituents of volatile oils, lignin, and alkaloids from different parts of M. biondii plants.
