Description
Arachis hypogaea (Peanut), belonging to the Fabaceae or Leguminosae family, is a New World crop that was disseminated to Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands by early explorers. Peanuts contain polyphenols, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, phytosterols and dietary fiber. Peanut skins contain resveratrol. Some studies show that regular consumption of peanuts is associated with a lower specific risk of mortality from certain diseases.
